Children & the Many Values of Art. (#1: Art as a Cure for Tears)

Daddy & Moma might be crafty, but we are by no means artists proper. Nonetheless, we believe strongly in the countless values of art -- including art for art's sake. This post is the first of four of many (I keep finding new opportunities!) in which we will share some simple ways engaging in artistic ventures has enriched our lives... more specifically, the children's lives. Please enjoy. :)

Value #1: A Cure for Tears

So sad... What do we do with sad baby?
Give him crayons!

And an easel...

and some inspiration!
(Is it the toy bin or the painting?)

Before you know it...

...he's found his groove!
(This day it was purple.)

Voila! A masterpiece! (Or something.)
And no more tears!

    LOVE this ... I always made sure there was Express Yourself! stuff around when Lauren and Noelle were little ... paper, crayons,pens & pencils, construction paper, TAPE, kid-friendly scissors, gluesticks, stickers, office-supply items like those little stars and stick-on dots.

      Rowan has access to such things aplenty, as it should be! But oooooh... Hawthorn with TAPE?!? @___@

    Yes definitely. Scotch tape. Lots of it. Available in sixpacks at Costco. Kids love it... or maybe this is just me as it was a restricted item in my own youth ... but they can come up with so many fascinating creations!

      "... it was a restricted item in my own youth ... " funny how we indulge these things with our own children, even if sometimes they are not quite as wild about it as we are.

      Given a little more time for, erm, maturity, perhaps the Changeling might be allowed some tape... WITH supervision! Lol! :D
